What does it mean to establish paternity?

Establishing paternity is an essential step in creating a child support order. It involves determining your child's biological and legal father, ensuring your child's rights are protected and both parents are involved in their upbringing. We're here to guide you through this process with care and understanding.
What if I am uncertain about the paternity of my child?

If you have questions about the paternity of your child, we're here to help. We offer free genetic testing at the Family Support Division located in the Clay County Courthouse. The testing process is quick and painless, involving a simple cheek swab for the child, mother, and man. Once the samples are sent to our laboratory, we'll provide you with the results. If there is a 98% or higher probability that the man is the father, he will be considered the presumed father under Missouri law.
How do I apply for child support services?

We're here to make applying for child support services as easy and stress-free as possible. You can apply online at www.dss.mo.gov/cse/ or by downloading and printing the application form from our website and mailing it to PO Box 6790, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102. Please allow up to 20 business days for processing. Once your application is processed, we'll mail you a confirmation letter, letting you know that your case is now open and providing you with additional information.
How will I receive my support payments?

We offer two convenient options for receiving your support payments: direct deposit or prepaid card. If you prefer direct deposit, complete the form online at www.dss.mo.gov/cse/ or download and print it and send it to PO Box 109006, Jefferson City, Missouri 65110. We're committed to ensuring that you receive your support payments promptly and securely.
